This seminar aims to help you see environments in a new light and create the best training scenarios to maximize your dog’s confidence and learning.

Amy will walk you through how to:

  • Conduct good environmental assessments for your training exercises

  • Improve the handler’s situational awareness

  • How to think about the odor picture from the dog’s perspective

  • How to identify the training goals that work in the environment you’ve got

  • How to incorporate fundamentals in your training regimen to engage the dog in the search

  • Structure training that works with the environment available to you

By carefully constructing training layers that build expectation, drive and resilience to problem-solve, the dog can generalize the concepts and become more successful in new and challenging environments.

This seminar will take you through live exercises to get you thinking creatively and outside the box in your daily training!

Amy is one of the country’s most experienced K9 Nose Work® instructors and has worked with thousands of dog and handler teams, including many of the top competitive teams. As an NACSW Certifying Official and Judge, she has also reviewed hundreds of trials that have provided important insights into training and handling for success.

COACHING DAYS WITH AMY & LEAH - Sunday, March 15 & Monday, March 16, 2026

Random Draw from Seminar Attendees only - wishing to enter for Coaching Days - Two Groups of 8 dog/handler teams each day will alternate working with Amy and Leah in several novel areas / environments throughout the day. Each group will get equal time with each area and each instructor.

Amy's bio is at the bottom of this page. Leah's bio can be found here.

DEMO & COACHING SPOT REQUIREMENTS:

Participating dogs do NOT need a title in order to participate, BUT...

  • Should be on all three odors (birch, anise, clove)

  • Should have a very good drive for target odor over environmental distractions

  • Should have spent plenty of training time working hides that are not/no longer paired with food

  • Should be comfortable working in front of a larger group of people than just a regular class

Dogs NOT suitable for a Demo or a Coaching Spot:

  • Dogs who have less experience or understanding of odor

  • Dogs who can become easily distracted by the environment

  • Dogs who are environmentally sensitive or bark at/aggress toward/react to people

  • Dogs who are more than mildly reactive with other dogs

Dogs with the issues above would not be well suited for a demo or working spot given that it typically takes some time to work through those things and it would possibly be too stressful for them, so we ask that you don’t request a demo spot or a working spot.

CRATING: Demo dogs may opt to car crate and have priority parking next to building. Optionally, there will also be indoor crating available for demo dogs only on the Seminar day (Saturday). Please bring whatever your dog needs to be made comfortable and cool/warm enough in between working exercises. Dogs in attendance MUST be able to stay quietly in their crates when out of sight from their handlers. Please leave non-participating dogs at home whenever possible. Coaching Day participants will be car crating and driving to different areas throughout the day.
